How Wide, How Deep

i think when God made the beach, he wanted to show off His glory. there’s so much about the beach that shows the story, the love and the message of Christ. the presence of God is hidden all over the beach, you just have to open your eyes to find it.

the waves. he only lets them go so far out before he pulls them back in. same with his children, you and i. we can wonder and lose our way but he is always gracious to pulling us back into his presence. the waves long to crash and touch the shore, to escape the grip of the ocean, to venture out, to not be chained. they long to see the world. but despite the rebellious waves, the ocean still pulls them in. the ocean still wants them back. same with you and i. even in our sin and our desire for worldly things, our Father still wants to know and love us.

the story of Christ. i love drawing things in the sand and watching the waves wash it away. God keeps no record of wrong. no sin is greater than the other. no heart too broken to fix. the blood of Jesus washes away our sin. each and every day. just as the waves never stop touching the shore, the blood of Jesus never ceases to wipe your slate clean. his mercy is made new for you every morning.

the ocean. how wide, how deep, how great. you look out into the horizon and you can’t see where it stops. you can’t ever fathom how massive the ocean is. making up 70% of this earth. and you are just a little tiny speck in comparison to the ocean. but he loves you, that little speck, with a love so much bigger than the ocean. the vastness of the ocean is too much to comprehend. I think Ephesians 3 sets this out for us. “And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.”

the sunsets. he really loves to show off here. there is nothing like a Florida sunset on the beach. each made so uniquely. no pattern in the sky is made alike. no color is shaded like another. he knits you and i with the same uniqueness. no heart and no soul is made alike. the only thing they have in common is their creator. we are each so unique. you can’t compare sunsets, they’re each beautiful. he made you and i with the same thought, we are incomparable, for we are each beautifully different.

the sea shells. what even are shells? let’s google it. wowza okay. so they are exoskeletons of mollusks such as snails, clams, oysters and many others lil creature. they have three distinct layers and are composed mostly of calcium carbonate and protein, instead of cells, they’re made carefully of minerals and protein. if God cares enough about the little creatures of the ocean floor to make them each a little home, a little shelter (mind you, that’s a lot of little carefully made homes) surely he cares about you so much more! His own child! so why worry? when you look across the beach, millions of shells, uniquely crafted for some tiny little creature God adores, rest assured knowing He has uniquely built you a safe place, a shelter, a home, a plan, a blessing. why? because you are worth more than a little microscopic sea creature.

now i know this is cheesy, i really do, but go to the beach and look for jesus. he’s there. i truly believe that heaven is just one long beach.
