Be Authentic.

There’s a difference between what we put on social media and what we don’t.

Instagram has become the ultimate “highlight reel.” We tend to only put the best photos of the best things that we see or do. We usually only post what is most pleasing to the eye, with a really good caption, and a really good filter. {and we always make sure to stay far away from Instagram’s beloved X-Pro filter}

Take these two photos, for example, Reagan is so happy on the top, that’s only because it was her birthday and I had just told her that we were going to have cake soon. In the photo on the bottom, it was the reality, it was 85 degrees outside, it was way past her naptime and she was not having it.

We can get too caught up with the highlights and forget to show the not-so-highlights with the world. We sometimes walk around with the facade that we have it all figured out. Let’s dig a little deeper.

fa·cade
/fəˈsäd/
noun
• an outward appearance that is maintained to conceal a less pleasant or {less} credible reality.
“her flawless public facade masked private despair”
I love this definition; to conceal a “less pleasant or less credible reality.”
On the outside, it can look like we have it all figured out, that we are loving life and it’s all perfect. But it’s what’s on the inside that counts. It’s your heart that counts, it’s your attitude that counts.
“Authenticity is not something we have or don’t have. It’s a practice; a conscious choice to of how we want to live. Authenticity is a collection of choices that we have to make every day. It’s about the choice to show up and be real. The choice to be honest. The choice to let our true selves be seen.”

How can you be more authentic in your daily life?
