Lately, God has been showing me some great things. Since I moved, I’ve been really busy and I wasn’t spending as much one-on-one time with God as I would have liked to. I decided to fast from Instagram and Twitter because I found myself on them all the time. After I did this, I really started digging into the Word, praying all the time, and reading great books that have been challenging and encouraging me.
During this time, I have been learning to be still and trust God. In this time of being still, Jesus has been helping me to practice qualities that he shows us in the Bible so that I can show those qualities to the people around me. I love what it says in Colossians 3:12-15:
“Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others. Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony. And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts. For as members of one body you are called to live in peace. And always be thankful.”
Woah. In this verse, it says to clothe yourself with mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, patience, forgiveness, love, peace, and thankfulness. It doesn’t say “you can choose which qualities you are going to clothe yourself with.” Or “oh just pick two that you want to practice.” No. It says, “Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you MUST clothe yourselves.” Sometimes we might look at this as a challenge, but guys this really is a privilege. God chose US. How awesome is that? We have the privilege to be the holy people he loves. Yes, it might be hard to forgive someone because they didn’t invite you to a party, or it might be hard to forgive someone if they ate your cake. No matter how big or small it is, God says because he forgave us we must forgive others.
I am choosing to show everyone – not just my family, but EVERYONE – mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, patience, forgiveness, love, peace, and thankfulness in every situation. This is going to be a challenge, but it isn’t impossible.
Prayer: “Dear God, I thank you for who you are and what you do for me. I pray that throughout my day-to-day life you help me to clothe myself in these qualities. I pray that I can show these qualities to everyone in and around my life. Thank you for choosing us God and trusting us to be the holy people that you love.”
